Wisdom teeth removal
Some people have no issues with their wisdom teeth, but many others don’t have space enough space in the jaw for them to emerge properly. This causes pain or tooth crowding, and in some cases, wisdom teeth grow underneath other molars and become impacted or stuck.
The process for removing erupted wisdom teeth and impacted wisdom teeth is different for each person. If the tooth is not impacted, removal is typically straightforward; if the tooth is impacted in the gum, we will recommend surgical removal.
Our team will evaluate your condition and recommend removing your wisdom teeth if appropriate.

How we ensure your comfort
Our Chicago dentists and dental team are highly experienced and skilled and have performed numerous tooth extractions with excellent results. Before we begin your procedure, we numb the tooth with a potent local anesthetic to ensure that you don’t feel any pain.
We also offer sedation dentistry, including nitrous oxide and oral sedation that reduce anxiety and help you stay calm and relaxed. Soothing amenities like blankets, neck pillows, and TVs in our treatment rooms all contribute to a comfortable, stress-free experience.
Self-care after tooth extraction
Your body needs time to heal and recover, so plan to take off the rest of the day after your procedure.
We will place sterile gauze on the extraction site, and you should bite down on it for about an hour or until bleeding stops, then replace it with fresh gauze.
Do not smoke or drink through a straw as the motion can dislodge the protective clot forming over the extraction site.
Plan a diet of soft foods for the next few days. Pudding, cooled soup, broth, and yogurt are all options to consider.
Brush your teeth as you usually do, but avoid the extraction site.
Our emergency dentists are a phone call away if you experience any complications. Please don’t hesitate to call us.
